The Sky to the West is on Fire

As I sat waiting for the wedding to begin, I looked out the large window looking to the west. Although it was day, the sky turned to darkness.

I saw the downtown Portland skyline, lights sparking, in the blackness of sudden night. An orange glow began to slowly rise from the downtown landscape. The glow became boiling fire that engulfed the city. The flames soared into the sky, ripping it, turning it orange.

The intensity of the inferno caused the sky to catch fire. The high-rise structures, burning, crumpled to the ground in silent destruction. All the people of the city ran to the river trying to escape, but they became the trees of a burned forest. White ash drifted down like snowflakes, covering the dead.

The wedding march played and the bride walked down the aisle and her mother cried.
